With the resignation of CEO Stephen Gardner and talks of privatization being thrown around the halls of the White House, we are now in one of the most pivotal moments in Amtrak's history. Now, more than ever, we must protect Amtrak as a public service. Privatizing Amtrak could mean the loss of service for hundreds of communities around the country. It would mean the loss of jobs, health care, and opportunities for areas that aren't touched by other modes of transportation.
Each Amtrak train is a multipurpose mobility machine, while the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) brought us into a new golden age of passenger rail through new equipment, long needed infrastructure improvements, and the potential of a network expansion not seen in many generations.
All of us who care about passenger rail need to deliver that message forcefully to our members of Congress. Use this action alert to call, write, or "tweet" your elected officials and continue to make your voice heard!
