Support S. 3728, the Long-Distance Corridor Relief Enhancement Act
S. 3728 is bipartisan legislation introduced by Senators Tim Sheehy (R-MT) and Jeff Merkley (D-OR) to clarify how long-distance passenger rail corridors are treated within the Federal Railroad Administration’s Corridor Identification and Development Program.
The bill is a narrowly tailored clarification that removes the non-federal match requirement for long-distance passenger rail corridors during the planning and development phases of Corridor ID.
Long-distance corridors cross multiple states and serve communities across entire regions. S. 3728 ensures these corridors are evaluated based on planning readiness and program merit rather than early local funding capacity.
S. 3728 does not change Corridor ID steps or oversight. It removes one early barrier, so long-distance corridors can advance within the program on equal footing.
